Imaginary Animals (2005)

http://unreasonableadults.va.com.au/imaginaryanimals/

Enter the world of animal fantasy, male confessions and erotic acts.

IMAGINARY ANIMALS takes the form of a web-mock-doco, an intrinsically personal interaction with/reaction to the many straight/bisexual men known to Jason Sweeney. The trigger for this work is the countless stories or ‘moments’ the artist has had with these men, who confess to having either sexual fantasies of being with him, or erotically charged physical moments, or stories of their desires to be with another man. The work takes the form of a ‘free to access’ sex site, with video-confessions of 3 men, their identities obscured by a chosen animal mask (a signature in many of Jason’s own live performances), playing upon the aesthetic of men as erotic beasts, always inclined for the possibilties of a homo-erotic encounter. Interviews are done with these men (in masks), naked, with a list of questions fired at them by the artist as to their queer fantasies, what they would do – or wouldn’t do – with another man if given a chance/desired and to perform an ‘homo-erotic/solo sexual act’ in front of the camera.
